Summary: Sunrise Could Have Used A Noon Wake-Up
Comment: I love Lisa Kleypas and her writing style but every once in awhile she puts out a clunker and lets hope this one is it for a long, long time.

This was a story I wanted to love and started to really like but it sort of fell flat towards the middle. Truthfully there were times I laughed my behind off with the dialogue she crafted for Leo and Ms. Marks and look forward to (hopefully) reading their story in the future. And (and this is a huge AND) I commend Ms. Kleypas for tackling diverse characters but I feel in SMAS and Mine til' Midnight that her male heros were a bit diminished. I was greatly disappointed she choose to introduce their white Irish heritage in such a forceful way at the very end. It was almost as if she did not have confidence that a diverse character could be legitimized as a hero and also prove to be industrious, wealthy, loving and all of the other things we assume when we read about white-anglo heroes in romance novels. Constantly referring to Cam's heartfelt desire to lose his wealth reminded me of Lucy Ricardo in the I Love Lucy episode where Ricky forbids her from going to the casino in Monaco. She does anyway and when she find a chip on the floor she tosses it on the blackjack table, she keeps winning. Well if you know that episode and remember the silliness and buffoonery that occurs, that is sort of the way I felt she worked to portray Cam.

As for Kev and Win. I loved the idea of two people so oppositionally different waiting for each other to love, live and eventually ride off into the sunset. But come on people, can't we all just get along! The repeated yo-yoing of Win to Kev made me wonder if Ms. Kleypas herself got bored writing their story and substituted silliness for substance. His over-brooding, almost feral behavior made me at times wish Dr. Harrow had minored in psychology and would commit to some therapy sessions with Kev.

I am in no way put off by this effort from Ms. Kleypas. In fact I hope she puts out another such book, maybe ushering in a Spanish hero (wink, wink). My advice is to be fearless, it is what we fans have come to expect of you.

Summary: I Love the Hathaway Family - book 2 of the series
Comment: The Hathaway family is so entertaining and it's so interesting to watch them grow and change. This is the story of Win and Merripen who have loved each other forever but due to Win's health they never acted on those feelings. In this book the author gives you some history of how Win and Merripen have developed into the current characters. Win returns home with one goal to live life and Kev Merripen is at the top of her list. Great novel, I love the Gypsy storyline and the characters from The Wallflower Series making a cameo.

I would also suggest; Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, Book 1) ,
Secrets of a Summer Night (The Wallflowers, Book 1), It Happened One Autumn (The Wallflowers, Book 2), The Devil in Winter (The Wallflowers, Book 3),Scandal in Spring (The Wallflowers, Book 4), A Wallflower Christmas

Summary: Very Good Book
Comment: I like the book vey much-the plot, the character and the tension of the story. I wished they'd been married a little sooner and most of the book about more tension as man and wife, just like the other books. Anyway, I was cut short on the story about Leo and Miss Marks. It just faded towards the end of the book, and you wonder what happened there( AND I WAS FOLLOWING THAT PART!) If Miss Kleypas will be able to read this review, I would like to ask you to consider writing about Leo and Miss Marks in your future books. Leo was far the most sarcastic and insulting (LOL) among your heros so far but I think it would present a great love story... It reminds me quite of your book A devil in Winter. But this one would presebt a different challenge.

Summary: A cosy read but not memorable....
Comment: Another author suffering from the curse of the family series. I have really enjoyed some of LK's earlier 'one off' books but not all of the Wallflower books were equally good (Devil in Winter was my favourite)and now we are branching from the Wallflowers into a whole new but vaguely connected family - the Hathaways. Cam and Amelia's story I can't really remember much about and this one will probably be the same.

Seduce me at Sunrise was an easy read and a feel good read and a pleasant way to pass a few lazy hours but the story didn't really ever move me hugely. You are constantly told that Kev/Merripen is burning with intensity but I didn't really feel it. His conflict with himself never seemed terribly real or very necessary to me - I was as frustrated as Win by the time he finally carried her off over his shoulder.

There was plenty of information about the other family members and suggestions and hints that their stories are to come. Probably the next one is Leo and the governess and then Polly and then Bea.

Agree with the other reviewer that the plot twist at the end was not necessary, far too facile and predictable.

Lisa Kleypas fans will no doubt buy this book anyway but if it's your first time for Kleypas recommend some of her earlier books in particular Dreaming of You or Because you're Mine and the more recent Devil in Winter.

Summary: Kev & Win's story is one of the best from Kleypas!
Comment: I am a big fan of Lisa Kleypas and have enjoyed her books. But this one stands out as one of her best becauwe it is about love, not just romance and not just physical attraction. That depth of emotion filled the book and made it so much better.

If you read "Mine Till Midnight," you know that Merripen (a gypsy taken in by the Hathaways when he was a boy) and Win have deep feelings for each other. In that book those feelings were smoldering under the surface but not expressed or acted upon. Win is frail and sickly after a bout with scarlet fever and Merripen is her protector. During that book, Merripen's first name is never disclosed.

This book begins two months after Cam and Amelia are married and Win is going to France to be treated by a doctor. Win tries to get Merripen (whose first name we now know is Kev) to admit his feelings for her and declares her love for him. They have a sizzling kiss but Kev pushes her away and denies his feelings so Win leaves for France.

Then the book goes back 12 years to when Kev was brought to the Hathaways after being left for dead by his tribe and we see the beginning of the love that binds Kev and Win. This section adds much to the book because it explains why Merripen acts the way he does and why he loves Win so much. Back at the present, Cam gives Kev the responsibility to oversee the rebuilding of the estate Leo inherited in the first book.

Win returns healthy after two years and Leo, who has been in France with her is also much improved emotionally from the first book. Win's new suitor also comes with them but Win still wants Kev and he still refuses to admit his love despite several more steamy kisses. He doesn't think he is worthy of her. The yearning between them is palpable.

The end of the book has several surprises that I won't give away. However, I think we know who will help Leo recover from mourning his fiance who died. It was a 2 hanky finale. I am really looking forward to the next books in this series!!
