Customer Rating: Summary: 4.5 stars Comment: This confused me until... well, until just a couple of minutes ago. When I read this, a lot sounded familiar, but I just assumed that I'd mistakenly read a later book out of order, and had learned these details in backstory.
It turns out I had read this one after all, because there are two editions with wildly different covers.
Kyrian is a Dark-Hunter, and I'm not going to go into what that is--check Ms. Kenyon's website if you really want to know. Amanda is an accountant (should I rant about the persistent stereotyping of accountant = boring?), the only "normal" member of her family--at least that's what she claims.
Anyway, The Bad Guy, Desiderius, brings Kyrian and Amanda together in what looks like a case of mistaken identity--Amanda's at her vampire-slayer-sister's house when she's abducted--and Amanda wakes up to find herself handcuffed to an unconscious Kyrian.
Kyrian tries to keep his distance, but feels responsible for Amanda's safety. Amanda tries to keep her distance from the whole supernatural thing, but feels she must go along with it to keep Desiderius from going after her sister.
There's action and adventure and supernatural intrigue, and emotional growth for both of them--Kyrian learns to trust, and Amanda learns to embrace the weird. Night Pleasures is a page-turning treat, and I'm looking forward to getting the others out of my TBR pile--ones I haven't already read.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dark Hunter series Comment: In Sherrilyn Kenyon's universe of immortals things get really erotic.
The raw erotica is the plus side of this series. Ms. Kenyon writes a great love scene and an even better sex scene.
But unfortunately that is all there is to these novels. Her immortals all look alike. They are beautiful, mostly blond, very, tall and ooze sex appeal. But I am left to wonder at how un-evolved they are. For a set of immortals, who have lived for thousands of years they have learned nothing. It is impossible to remain that shallow after so long. They have no depth one would think that after living for so long one would learn a thing or two. They haven't! They are bitter, spiteful, shallow, self-centered, and silly. The writer also keeps certain mysteries going so that the reader will buy the next book. Cheaply done. It is not a TV series! Readers don't want to resolve issues in the next book what can be resolved I the book they are currently reading.
There are aspects of these books that I love. The women are great and varied even if they are mostly from one area and one family. This is where Ms. Kenyon develops her variety of characterizations with the women. The fabulous, sexy immortal men however, are very one-dimensional; interchange the names and you have one guy.
The initial concept of these characters is wonderful but the author needs to revisit her ideas and come back with a group of wiser more varied immortals.
Customer Rating: Summary: Enticing and Erotic Comment: Kyrian kept me at the edge of my seat. Grace is a strong woman who draws you in. She is not the typical heroine in one of the romance novels who needs saving, since she is strong and sure of herself. This book was erotic and enticing and I would highly recommend it!
